A PS5 that spits out discs, refuses to read them, or won't let go of one is a common problem, and it's one of the repairs listed on our PS5 repair in Houston page. Here's how to tell what's going on.
First, Does Your PS5 Have a Disc Drive?
The PS5 Digital Edition has no disc drive, so this only applies to the standard model with a drive. If you do have one, the symptoms below point to a drive problem.
Common Disc Drive Symptoms
- The console says there's no disc even though one is inserted
- The disc spins up, loud and grinding, then stops
- The disc won't eject when you press the eject button
- Games from discs fail to install or crash while loading
Quick Checks Before a Repair
- Try a different disc. If other discs read fine, the problem is the disc, not the drive.
- Wipe the disc gently with a soft, clean cloth from the center outward. Scratches and fingerprints cause read errors.
- Restart the console fully and try again.
- Don't move the console while a disc is spinning. Bumping it can scratch the disc and damage the drive.
Please Don't Force a Stuck Disc
Prying out a stuck disc can ruin both the disc and the drive mechanism. If it won't eject on its own, bring the console in as it is.
What We Do
We check whether the drive itself has failed or whether something else is causing the symptom, so you only replace what needs replacing. Repairs carry a 90-day warranty on aftermarket parts, or one year with OEM parts.
