When a PS5 or Xbox stops working, the first thought is often "time for a new one." Sometimes that's right, but often the repair is the smarter move. Here's how to decide.
When Repair Usually Wins
- One failed part: an HDMI port, a power supply, or a disc drive is a targeted fix, not a dead console
- The console is otherwise healthy: it plays fine when it works
- You've got a big game library or saved setup you'd rather not rebuild
When Replacing Might Make Sense
- Several separate things have failed at once
- The console has taken serious damage, such as a drop or liquid exposure
- The repair quote comes close to the price of a new console
Ask for the Diagnosis First
The most useful thing a repair shop can give you is an honest diagnosis before you commit. You'll know exactly what's wrong and can compare that against the cost of replacing it. We diagnose before quoting, so there are no surprise parts.
Consider the Warranty
A repair that comes with a warranty gives you protection a used replacement doesn't. Ours covers 90 days on aftermarket parts, or one year with OEM parts.
